Chp.6 Beast From Air

In the chapter Beast From Air the kids on the unknown island biguns and littluns, are changing their mind on weather the beast is really coming from the water now they are thinking its coming from the air. Sam and Eric were out of the shelters near the fire, when they saw a creature with dangling limbs coming from the sky in what looked like a parachute. The twins went to tell Ralph what they saw but they were exaggerating because they said the beast had huge claws and had attacked them which was not true. They all got really frightened so they called an assembly quietly without using the conch. The boys agreed in going up the mountain and hunting the beastie down so Ralph, Jack and Simon go. They start looking on the other side of the mountain but they find nothing. Which they don't know that the creature that was dangling from the parachute is really a dead man.

"Jack led the way down the rock and across the bridge." (pg.108)

I chose this quote because Ralph and Jack are always competing with each other on who has the most authority in the group but at the end Jack ends up leading them down the mountain and Ralph stays behind. It is an example of a theme Man's Humanity To man because two human beings are competing with each other.

This story takes place at the peak of the mountain where they are trying to hunt the beastie down.

Chp.5 Beast From Water

In the chapter the Beast From Water all the kids biguns and littluns are frightened because they think the beastie is coming from the water instead of the forest. Ralph calls an assembly not to have fun but to take things seriously because not everybody is helping like they said they would help. Chaos is happening on the island. Fresh water is running out. They kids are not using the right lavatories to wash their clothes on. The fire is not always on. The littluns are having nightmares and when they wake up they think it was real because one of the kids saw a big figure moving at the middle of the night which turns out to be Simon who's the one sneaking out at night. They still there's something else out there in the forest. Jack jumps out in the conversation and says that there cant be no beastie because he has been all around the island and if there was a beastie who would have seen it. After that Piggy concludes that if the beast is not in the forest it can be coming out of the water. They talk about some sort of animal called a squid. The trouble starts again with Piggy and Jack. Ralph wants to quit his job in being chief because its alot of pressure and he cant take it anymore.

"I know about me. And him. He can't hurt you: but if you stand out of the way he'd hurt the next thing. And that's me" (pg.93)

I think this quote is the most important quote in the chapter because it shows that Ralph is better than Jack in many ways. Also its an example of symbolism because Ralph represents someone that stands in the middle of Jack so he cant hurt Piggy. This happens in the assembly where they are trying to figure out if the beastie is real or its just part of the littluns imagination.

Chp. 4 Lord of the Flies

In the chapter Painted Faces And Long Hair the kids are getting bored of the island and don't know what else to do to entertain them. Most of the time the littluns are crying for their mommies. One day everybody was down in the bathing pool diving and just resting in the water, when Ralph started screaming "Smoke,Smoke". Everybody gets alerted and they run up to the mountain to see if the fire is still going. They find that the fire has died out because Jack's crew went hunting instead. Ralph doesn't know what to do because the only hope of getting rescued has vanished.
Jack gets there later on with his crew really happy and screaming because they finally caught the pig they were trying to hunt for days. His Faces were painted so when they saw the pig the pig wouldn't see them and they would camouflage with the background. Ralph starts screaming at Jack for not keeping the fire going and letting the ship go away. Jack gets so frustrated with Ralph and then Piggy starts to go at it too. All of a sudden Jack start punching and smacking Piggy and breaks his glasses. Ralph doesn't do anything about it.Then Jack apologizes to Ralph and they all start roasting the pig.

"Look! We've killed a pig--we stole up on them--we got in a circle--"

"Piggy's glasses flew off and tinkled on the rocks.Piggy cried out in terror:"My specs""

This relates to symbolism because the pig and Piggy's glasses are both objects that play an important role in this novel. The pig because Jack is so obsessed in hunting it down that he forgets about the fire and the ship goes away without knowing that they are there. The specs are important because they help light the fire.
